Updating Momentum Theme
Momentum is updated with the Momentum Theme Updater. You export your live theme from Shopify, the updater brings it to the latest version and you upload the result as a new theme. Everything you changed in your store stays: settings, texts, templates, translations and custom code. Only the parts the update actually adds or fixes are touched.
Versions
Momentum uses version numbers in the form x.y.z (e.g. 1.1.0):
- x.y.0 — new features, sections, blocks or settings
- x.y.z — bug fixes and small improvements
You find your version in the theme editor under Theme settings → Theme info. What changed in each version is listed on the Changelog page.
Updating Step By Step
- Export your theme. In your Shopify admin go to Online Store → Themes, click ⋯ next to your live theme and choose Download theme file. Shopify emails you a download link for the ZIP.
- Run the updater. Upload the ZIP to the Momentum Theme Updater (you need your access code). It shows which version your theme is on and what the update brings.
- Read the report.
- Green: everything was applied cleanly.
- Yellow ("please check"): places where both the update and your store changed the same lines. The report shows your previous version of those lines so you can re-apply them if needed.
- Red: the check after the update failed. Do not upload this ZIP; contact support.
- Download the updated ZIP and upload it in Shopify under Online Store → Themes → Add theme → Upload ZIP file. It arrives as a new, unpublished theme. Your current theme stays untouched as a backup.
- Check the new theme in the theme editor and preview, using the checklist in the report.
- Publish the new theme. Keep the old one for a few days before deleting it.
Tip: Always export a fresh ZIP right before updating. If you work from an old export, changes you made in the theme editor since then would be missing.
What The Updater Changes, And What It Doesn't

Updating to Momentum 1.1.0
Momentum 1.1.0 (October 2026).
The updater adjusts these settings automatically
- Shipping bar (Theme settings → Cart): your previous goals are moved to the new milestone settings (amount, title, icon, progress text, gift product). If your theme used its own "goal reached" color in custom code, that color is carried over to Progress bar complete color.
- Rich text fields: the texts of Icon Bar 2, Image With Icons, Features, Testimonials, Shop by Category and the product-page testimonial became rich text fields. Existing texts are wrapped as a paragraph automatically. They look the same.
Your pages keep their look
Momentum 1.1.0 brings many new section settings (Add to cart buttons, review card styling, rich text descriptions, color scheme gradients and more). Some of these came with new default values for basic section settings in the underlying code base. Momentum deliberately keeps the previous defaults for:
- Colors (color mode): sections keep their previous choice between Use color scheme and Custom
- Spacing: section padding stays as before
- Section width: page width / edge to edge stays as before
Why this matters: Shopify only stores the settings you actually changed. Every setting you never touched uses the theme's default value. If the defaults changed with an update, untouched settings would change too, and existing pages could suddenly look different. Because Momentum keeps the old defaults, your existing pages look the same after the update.
New sections you add after the update use the same defaults. Most sections start with Colors: Use color scheme, so they match your theme colors right away. If you want individual colors for a section, set Colors to Custom: the section's own color fields (background, heading, text and so on) then appear and override the color scheme.
New settings start with values that match the previous look wherever possible. In the few places where an old setting was replaced (e.g. the button colors in the advertorial sections or the full-width option of the Testimonials Video section), the article for that section explains what to check after the update.
Check after uploading
- Open the cart drawer: shipping bar, milestone titles and colors are correct (Theme settings → Cart).
- Apply a discount code in the cart drawer: the code tag and the savings line appear.
- Icon bars, Image With Icons and Testimonials: texts look as before.
- Product page: block spacing looks as before.
- If you use the Bundle Builder: check the button styling. Get Your Bundle now empties the cart before adding the bundle.
